Organic growth of a scale up tech business

Our client is a technology business with a comprehensive open solution for transport data with over 1,500 developers and organisations on their platform.

The Need

As a scale-up growing technology business, the skill set of the original founders of the business did not include someone with finance expertise. The founders wanted expertise at a level that would enable the business to grow but didn’t have the resources to commit to a full-time hire. The Chairman of the business introduced the Board to Numitas, which helped to address concerns the founders initially had over commercial confidentiality. Although the business wasn’t aware of the part time model, we advised that this would be the best approach to enable the development of the internal finance function and to contribute to driving the performance and growth. Our part time Finance Director has demonstrable expertise of working with senior management teams to provide challenge, insight and commercial acumen so that decisions can be made with confidence.

The Engagement

Our experienced part time Finance Director has been working with the client to:
• improve processes and systems to generate enhanced reporting, understanding, insight and analysis for the Board.
• improve confidence in projections and enable decisions to be made with more confidence.
• generate and manage financial models to reflect the growth plans.
• contribute to commercial issues and work with the team to maximise opportunities, employ best practice and scale efficiently.
• provide coaching and guidance for the internal finance function in order to contribute to driving performance and growth of the business.

The CEO was also keen to have a financial expert who they could trust to challenge and critique plans and decisions on a number of levels.

Outcomes

Opportunity to use as much or as little of the FD’s time as they wanted, no contracted minimum, no lock-in costs
